Party Hard, Sleep Well: HoliDaze Brings Festive Vibes and Goodwill to a Sunday Near You

by Kevin G

When was the last time your Sunday sounded like this? (click the text)

It was 8pm and I had just checked my expectations at the door at SummerDaze’s festive HoliDaze charity event. Almost immediately I found myself staring with growing awe at a thrush of shadowy bodies gyrating to a rhythmic beat in the dimly lit warehouse space; eventually I realized that I, too, had joined in the ecstatic dance.

To top it all off, the whole thing wrapped up by 11pm.

THE MUSIC

HD-2

Dancing was inevitable and the curated sounds created an impeccable, emotional ride.

The Scumfrog played an extended set as the headliner. The house & techno producer is popular with the Burning Man type for his laid-back remixes and feel-y sets. He held it down calmly at the helm of a party that bucked and swayed with the sonic vibes streaming out of the powerful alieninFlux sound system.

THE SPACE

Entering the beautiful Only One Gallery space in West Queen West, you were met with vast concrete floors, high and tidy brick walls, and red uplighting that cast a festive hue over everything and made shadows out of all the people.

Basically it was everything you needed to pull off dance moves like this:

THE EVENT

“We use our abilities to throw good parties and help others” – SummerDaze crew

HoliDaze was 2015’s last instalment of OutToLunch, a high-quality food & music event series whose aim is to warm up the winter months with good vibery. The proceeds from this particular party went to support two causes: Help Tanya Fight Cancer, a fund for a close friend of the SD crew who’s battling a second bout of the disease; and the Arctic-minded Parvati.

Partying on a Sunday felt almost naughty, like I shouldn’t get to have fun and a full night’s sleep. But both certainly happened. Is Sunday the new Friday? Who knows. New Year’s Resolutions…

HD-1THE VIBES

Writing for the blog, I usually check out parties on my own. Rarely do I feel as wordlessly welcome as I did at HoliDaze; the air was one of love, light, and general openness. It was seriously contagious.

Sandra of the Summerdaze crew reflected after the event: “We’re very lucky with the people that come out to our parties. The vibes were top notch. People just love feeling love, and they went through tonight with smiles on their faces. That’s a success to us”

Between this and the Desert Hearts collab, what I’ve seen of Summerdaze is seriously positive stuff. They’ve got a New Year’s Eve party that looks to be a mind-opener and I’m really looking forward to jamming with the SD crew in 2016.
