Craze Pushes The Boundaries of Trap and Bass Music With ‘Off The 1, 2’s’

by Colin

Legendary DJ, Craze, has been steadily stepping up his production game and his latest EP sees his sound travelling into new realms. Off The 1,2s is a forward-thinking blend of hip-hop, trap and turntablism with a hefty helping of weirdness. ‘On The 1, 2’ sets things off with fierce cuts, snapping drums and some dizzying drops. It’s the type of sound that’ll make you say ‘whoa, what the fuck is this?” A sentiment which is assured to be carried throughout your listening experience. ‘Worldwide’ fittingly draws samples from world music with mesh of pitched vocals and fierce brass. The party really ramps up with ‘Let Us In,’ a heater that is best considered as space trap. Phasers, lasers and dank distorted basslines clash for what sounds like a battle for interstellar domination. ‘Playa Hatas’ keeps the energy flowing with a raw and experimental sound topped with Big L samples. As the project comes to a close things get a bit more sombre and emotional with ‘Last Breathe’. The evolution of the sound is noteworthy and the liquid DnB inspired close is an unexpected highlight. Off The 1,2s proves that Craze is an innovator and still one of the best out, both behind the decks and the boards.
