When you title a track ‘voyage’ you present listeners with a certain level of expectation. Before even pressing play you’re imagining a journey, something transportational and engrossing. It seems newcomer nelson was well aware of this, as his debut meets and exceeds any preconceived expectations. A serene soundscape washes over you after you hit play, as drums are layered in, anticipation builds with an air of epicness. Things take a heavy turn as ‘voyage’ dips into what feels like an ancient battle scored by booming bass and twisted synths. As quickly as the intensity came in, it washes away. Leaving you reeling as if you just had a flashback, a memory from a prior life. As things heat up once more, the flashback is replaced with a premonition of a futuristic war. Spears and arrows are replaced by bullets and skull-crushing robots. Before you get to witness the final outcome it all fades away as you try to make sense of it…
