I love thrift stores. The satisfaction I get from finding the perfect tee after an hour of digging and rooting is unbeatable. Clothing mounted on a rack is too easy, too accessible.
After a series of mix tapes, in 2008 Elzhi released his first LP, The Preface. Listening to this record is no different than digging through bins of used clothes or records. Rather than telling stories as they are, Elzhi tells stories through his skilled use of language, weaving a web of symbolism. The different level of interpretation he offers takes a bit of brain power to discover, but it will give you more satisfaction than having it delivered a la carte.
