Though it was only announced less than a month ago, the anticipation for the collaborative project from Lido and Canblaster has been immense. Finally the wait is over as Superspeed has arrived. Having two of the most original minds in electronic music come together is guaranteed to produce something spectacular and that’s exactly what this is. ‘6.59 am’ kicks things off perfectly with a smooth progression, moving from mellow to exciting, setting the stage for the rest of the project. The dreamy soundscape will make you feel like you’re asleep, but it steadily picks up, flowing into ‘Alarm Clock’. The actual sound of an alarm clock is sampled through the aptly titled second track. Though it may sound off-putting, the two find a way to make it thematic and beautiful.
‘Rush Hour’ is the project’s crowning achievement. It’s beautiful and melodic, dark and hard hitting, uplifting and mind blowing all in one. I’d go as far as to say this is one of the best songs of the year. Despite the similar title ‘Superspeed’ and ‘Hyperspeed’ are very different sounds. The former is an overly infectious poppy anthem with just enough bass and originality to make it undeniably awesome. ‘Hyperspeed’ drifts between ambient and glitchy with muted vocals adding a human feel to an otherwise computery sound. ‘Too late’ closes things out and though less than a minute of muted and wonky sounds don’t add up to much it works as a fitting outro.
