With the release of his Momentum EP, Nick Pacoli’s incredible potential is realized and showcased over the span of just 12 minutes. Momentum is difficult to classify, it’s an experimental instrumental hip-hop project that embodies elements of future bass, future R&B, trap and more. The opener ‘What It Feel Like’ is a sexy constantly evolving track that moves from the coffee house to the bedroom; reaching a climax pairing Common samples with shimmering synth patterns. ‘Innovate’ opens with a dreary downtempo feel that is completely flipped on its head with the addition of radiant keys. The progression throughout is masterful, exploring numerous directions without feeling disjointed. Common appears in sample form once again, acting as the voice of the producer speaking to his audience “I just wanna innovate.” ‘Whose Bed’ is a harder, trap influenced effort that’ll give you an adrenaline rush, mellow you out and get you hyped once more before letting you relax. It’s the auditory equivalent of drinking Red Bulls between blunts and almost just as trippy. ‘Love Session’ closes things out with an exotic yet familiar sound. Common makes a final appearance spliced between pitched vocals and lush strings and keys. Stream the EP below and be sure to pick up the free download.
