To me a remix is simply the new version of a song cover. It is something that has been around for so long and was seen as a way for artists to pay their respects to the influencers of their creativity. In many cases the legal rights were not put in question, for example Jimmy Hendrix performing a cover of “Sgt. Pepper’s lonely hearts club band” just days after the Beatles released the song (Yes I have recently watched the Hendrix bio-pic which conveniently showcased this). I understand the legal rights are put in question for song sampling, but if artists are releasing songs for free I see no issue. This is the digital world, and this is just the way of doing the same thing artist have always done…
