Earlier this week (Monday June 15th to be exact) Drizzy’s debut album Thank Me Later turned 5. Five years ago, the Toronto rapper released his first major lablel release as a follow up to 2009’s So Far Gone. Though that was a mixtape it definitely sounded like an album, nevertheless TML is his first full length LP. The debut rounded off at 14 tracks with production from hometown heroes Noah “40” Shebib and Boi-1da as well as Kanye West and the legendary No I.D. Complete with the radio hits, Thank Me Later didn’t fall short of the minimalist introspective bars we became accustom to from Aubrey. One of the biggest standouts seems to meet somewhere right in the middle. ‘Unforgettable’ featuring the Snowman himself is one of the tracks you may have missed, though we hope you didn’t. Leading in with an Aaliyah sample from ‘At Your Best’ over the keys played by 40 and 1da’s drums, ‘Unforgettable’ sees Drake rapping about his sudden success with braggadocious delivery but introspective lyrics. Young Jeezy assists on the hook and adds a verse complete with his classic ad-libs. Coming in at just over three and a half minutes, the track is easily one of the best from the 6 God’s debut. Throw it back with us and vibe out to the sounds below.
