First, Drake made it okay to feel.
His embrace of emotion as subject matter made it a relief to listen to songs like ‘Lord Knows‘ off 2011’s Take Care (“I know that showin’ emotion don’t ever mean I’m a pussy“). He’s always held a reasonable standard of raw honesty in his tracks, and this made him a relatable human.
Now he’s gone on screens everywhere with his just-released video for ‘Hotline Bling’ with some easily-targetable dance moves that have caused the internet trolls to fill their bottles of Haterade, only to find that when they make fun of Drake’s dance moves… it’s fun. They smile. It feels good. Like dancing should.
Drake’s not mad, nor is he flexing or fronting or flossing or any of the other stage antics rappers gotta do to play ball. He’s busting out the same way we do, and isn’t afraid to do it in a glowing coloured box.
So dance on, weirdos. Dance on.
