It’s 2015 and artist based collectives and labels are quickly becoming the new norm. Dated record execs are being replaced by artists that are entrenched in the scene and dedicated to the culture. By banding together artists can harness a collective reach and influence comparative to that of a larger label without having anyone but themselves to answer to. The latest to embody this structure is the newly formed No Parent No Rules (NPNR). Based in Dallas, TX, the label/collective was founded by BBoy Morris, Pass The 40 and The Hi-Yahs. We had the pleasure of connecting The Hi-Yahs to properly introduce NPNR. Be sure to check out the interview below.
With the announcement comes the first release from NPNR, an absolutely explosive club heater from WALL. ‘Hit Em Wit Sum’ wastes no time opening with heavy kicks right from the outset. As the hypnotizing melody begins to creep in, the kicks subside as snares set the stage. The title sample leads into a viscous club drop that’s gritty and energetic. A combination of inviting laughter and sensual moans round out the break before WALL “hit’s us with sum” once again. It’s bass heavy, forward-thinking and primed for the club. What’s your current roster like? Are you looking to add people?
Right now, the collective/label consists of a lot of local DJs and producers from Dallas, TX but we also have artists from all over like; Perk Pietrek from Singapore and he has done a lot with Main Course, Alean & Skyy from Laredo, TX and you may know them from their many OTW/Mix Mash releases. Why did you start NPNR? What’s your goal?
We started it to basically spread great music that might get lost in the cracks because even if you are an established artist it is still a challenge to get your music on labels or even get your music spread across the web. As for our goal we just want to help artists push their music out to the world and help them get the shine that they deserve.
What can we expect from you in terms of the sound?
For us, our concept is “No Genres/No Boundaries” so you will be hearing a lot of different types of music coming from the label/collective. But even with that being said you probably won’t be hearing any hard psy-trance breaks or anything of that nature but you never know. Lol
Can you elaborate on the name?
“No Parents No Rules” is a phrase that we use to empower ourselves and the people around us to help us reach our goals and dreams, don’t let anything to hold you back.
Our Motto
“Have fun like there are NO PARENTS to judge you and party like there are NO RULES to hold you back!”
