When Volo reached out with his EP I wasn’t sure what to expect. I hadn’t heard of him but the artwork looked legit and I enjoyed the fact that he used the word the vibes in his social handles. I mean, we have a whole playlist series dedicated to Vibes so we’re definitely about that. As I pressed play I was quickly drawn in. The earthy downtempo soundscape and bent vocals on ‘Traces’ set the mood, while large orchestra-inspired drops inflicted a new air of energy. The sound reminded me of Leon Osborn and Loston with its own distinct flair. As the first track faded into the distance, I eagerly anticipated what would come next. ‘Seeker’ is a slow burner that builds steam with a hazy opening that eventually comes into focus. It’s sunshine on the first day spring, rich with promise and potential. The project’s conclusion is ‘Primitive’. It packs a similar feel and structure to aforementioned tracks with a deeper wordly feel and sense of emotion. Traces is a strong offering that is guaranteed to take you on an auditory expedition.
