The Hi-Yahs has been killing it on the low for a few years now. The Dallas based producer first landed on our radar with his stellar remix of Crywolf and has continued to impress ever since. Able to take on any genre and make it his own, he’s dropped house heaters (‘Call Me’), Nu-Disco grooves, electro bangers and even dabbled in jungle terror. Despite the range, his most impressive efforts all seem to come when he works within the trap genre. With that said, seldom does he stick to just trap, it’s usually some unique variation that blends influences from a multitude of sources. Case in point, his latest release – a rework of Major Lazer’s ‘Be Together’.
Though it would best fit under the trap genre, it blends elements of future bass and indie dance for a forward thinking flip that’s infectious and irresistible. ‘Be Together’ features all original production excluding the stirring vocals. Even still, the vocals are bent, sped, chopped and echoed for a sound that intensifies their strength. It begins low key and sultry but builds into a powerful anthem with uplifting synths and lush bass. Rounding it out is a breakdown ripe with feels and some killer vocals chops to close things out. It’s a complete re-imagination of the track that does major justice to the original. Stream below and be sure to grab the free download.
