Halifax producer Ryan Hemsworth is one of the most interesting and unpredictable producers in electronic music. His ability to produce across genres and explore new sounds has made him a favourite among many. For his latest release ‘How It Felt,’ Hemsworth crafts something truly special. It’s not quite like anything I’ve heard before. It opens with a mystifying, downtempo feel which morphs into a powerful festival inspired build. Just when you wonder if Hemsworth is going EDM, the bottom drops out and you’re met with a gritty low-end sound that’s trapped out and jazzy. Don’t get to comfortable as things take an emotional shift, stripping away the bass in place of evocative keys before building once more. The track concludes with a retooled drop that is equal parts worldly and cartoonish. The range of emotion and progression encapsulated in ‘How It Felt’ is nothing shy of amazing.
