It’s been 3 years since we’ve heard solo material from Jay Z. After heating up guest verses (‘All The Way Up,’ ‘I Got The Keys’) we’ve been eagerly anticipating his next solo release. Today that wait has come to an end with the powerful single ‘Spiritual’. The track, which was actually recorded last year has Jay at his most reflective and introspective. As the hook repeats, “Yeah, I am not poison, no I am not poison/Just a boy from the hood that/Got my hands in the air/In despair don’t shoot/I just wanna do good, ah” it brings forth a troubling reminder of the lives lost at hands of police in recent time. A sentiment that Jay highlights in the accompanying note below. The track can be streamed in full below (you don’t need to Subscribe to Tidal for this one).
