Your Brain and Body on Music

by FUXWITHIT

Close your eyes and imagine you are at Tomorrowland. You are front row and all you can see are glimpses of the vast array of colored spotlights illuminating the faces of the beautiful people around you. As for your body, all control of your movement has been lost, for it is now part of the beat. All your problems have momentarily vanished and for the next few hours you will be able to escape reality. Why is it that in this moment, and this moment only, one can feel “invincible?” Simply put, it is because when music and your adrenaline collide, beautiful things can happen.

Music can change our moods and is surprisingly a very powerful anti-depressant

Here is the science behind it: believe it or not, that intense volume of those gigantic speakers slightly reduces your reaction time and in the meantime your brainwaves are being altered significantly. As this occurs, your body’s level of neurotransmitter dopamine (molecules that make you motivated and alert) increases significantly. Due to this, music can change our moods and is surprisingly a very powerful anti-depressant. To say the least, Electronic Dance Music is a constitutional “drug” that we all want more of.

As the sweat leaks out of every pore in your body you may start to feel fatigue, so you better grab some water before you drop like the beat itself. Spending a whopping ten dollars on that bottle of water seems crazy, but it may not necessarily be all that bad. Think about it, after your little “water break” you can return to dancing. Listening to music while doing a physical activity confuses the brain, and in turn helps override those signals of fatigue so you can unknowingly burn off all that junk you have been putting into your body.

Even just a few minutes of doing this can significantly alter your mood and relax you for your transition into “reality.”

The festival you have been dreaming about for months is now nearing an end and you have lost one of your friends, you can barely hear due to the three day exposure of those huge speakers and to top it all off you are mentally and physically hungover from the fun. Luckily, once again, music is here for you. Spend some time listening to some peaceful experimental electronic tunes and sit back because soon their hypnotic melodies will slow down those waves in our brains that process all of the “loud” information. Even just a few minutes of doing this can significantly alter your mood and relax you for your transition into “reality.”

Whether I am working out and in need of a “personal trainer”, or need a little help focusing on my work, electronic music is always there for me. I think we all can agree the era of rock n roll and other older genres are slowly dwindling to an end and we need something to “feed” our generation of thrill seekers and inquisitive minds. With all of the strains of genres within electronic music, I feel as if any music goer can find a track that fits their personal needs. If not, no worries,  just listen to your favorite genre and let music’s awesomeness have its affect on you.
