Zeds Dead and NGHTMRE double down on ‘Frontlines’ featuring GG Magree’s purring vocals. Following their collaboration with Diplo, Zeds Dead hooks up with NGHTMRE, who we last saw with Dillon Francis, and bring it in on this inter-stellar Dance/EDM track.
GG Magree’s nectarous vocals cast a spell of loneliness, as the the synthetic-xylophonic chimes create a sense of innocence; as if you were hearing a segment of a video game tune you loved as a kid. The backdrop is darkened with a stalking, machine-like drone, hinting at the drops to come. As Magree’s lyrics, “Didn’t I see your light on?” draw hope to the surface, her voice is submerged beautifully into the mix cutting her notes into sharp-edged splices and shatters. Tattered, you are allowed a moment with just her words in a eerie break- the eye of the storm. The layered instrumentals, swirling vocal cuts, and nebulous build ups, coasting plunges, and the deeper center trench make this a great track to space out to.
Even though ‘Frontline’ has received some negative comments, and insinuations of straying from Zeds Dead’s and NGHTMRE’s style, this song will make any lonely space traveler feel hopeful and sway into its creamy-dream-haze. Scope it out on SoundCloud below.
