As Expected, King Los Spits Fire on ‘Fuckin Wit It’

by FUXWITHIT

There are only a handful of rappers in the game right now who can hold a candle to King Los, but hip-hop heads around the world are still sleeping on him (we’ve talked about this before). ‘Fuckin Wit It,’ the first single off his highly anticipated mixtape, High Frequency, has the potential to wake the world up.

‘Fuckin Wit It’ is like the spiritual sequel to Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Swimming Pools (Drank).’ Thanks to Kendrick’s chorus, countless listeners missed the depth of ‘Swimming Pools.’ While people were hooked by the prospect of a party anthem, ‘Swimming Pools’ is a much darker, more introspective song than many listeners first realize. By making the song sound fun, Kendrick tricked audiences into listening to lyrics that actually mean something. Los does the same thing with ‘Fuckin Wit It,’ with one notable difference: King Los can run lyrical circles around Kendrick Lamar.

The pre-hook makes ‘Fuckin Wit It’ seem lighthearted and fun: “drink got me fired up, but I’m fuckin wit it / kush got me blown away but I’m fuckin wit it / girl do your thang, I’m fuckin wit it / I dunno your name, but I’m fuckin wit it.” As the choruses unfold, however, Los bares his soul, showing us the depth and insight that you’d expect from the man who brought you God, Money, War. Though Los has, historically, been more of a battle rapper than anything else, God, Money, War showed us that he has plenty to say about the state of the world. If ‘Fuckin Wit It’ is any indication, High Frequency will be his way of saying his piece.

‘Fuckin Wit It,’ like God, Money, War, could certainly be labeled “conscious rap,” but it’s so much more than that. Los’s greatest gift is his ability to speak his mind without coming off as preachy or condescending. What’s more, he does so with complex and varied rhyme schemes: “pastors ain’t hearin’ us hollerin’ for health / college does not provide wealth / stack up your dollars gain knowledge yourself / realize the power you got in yourself / be conscious of health / shit, since I went vegan / I’m spiritually peakin’ / I feel like the ancestors’ hearin’ me speakin’.”

2016 has given us plenty of great hip hop, but this is the first track we’ve gotten from King Los all year. Hopefully this is a sign that he’s still planning to drop High Frequency and claim his rightful title as man of the year. Until then, check out the song and let us know what you think in the comments. Personally, I’m fuckin’ wit’ it.
