Lotus at Town Ballroom for Some Tricks and Treats this Freaky Friday

by Mekabeth

Lotus is a band that has come into focus a few times through out my exploration of music. It is a band name I have heard uttered at some of the  jam-band concerts I have been to, but have also seen them pop up when I am cruising the internet for old-school electronic sets. Not really putting it all together, I finally took the plunge into these uncertain waters after seeing String Cheese Incident (SCI) at Red Rocks in Colorado. SCI owns and manages SCI Fidelity, an independent label based in Boulder, Colorado, and Lotus is one of their artists. You may be slightly confused reading this on an electronic, hip hop, and trap blog, but, please, trust me as I did my friends, who claimed they were the bomb, that I had to go to a show, and to see them in Boulder was a holy gift from the minstrel gods Themselves- I have high expectations.

I have been getting acquainted with Eat the Light, their latest album, and cannot imagine what this show is going to be like since on any given appearance they could play an alternative rock set, or a pure 90’s rave inspired warehouse party mix. Who knows? Word on the streets here in Buffalo is that this is a special Halloween performance where they will not only bestow us with some of Eat the Light, but also Halloween inspirited electro-mixes. If you read up on Lotus you will discover their first influence made a lasting impression; ever hear of The Orb? I am hoping it will be creepy, and I’m certain it will thrill me.

Tomorrow, doors open at 7:00 PM at Buffalo’s Town Ballroom for the first of a two-night series. Check out their website for details. I’ll be the skeleton with the demon lawyer.
