Today marks a new chapter for London duo Stööki Sound. After spending most of the past year touring, they’ve also been in the studio on the low working on something special. That something has arrived in the form of their Ösiris EP. Adding even more significance to the release, Ösiris is the first project to drop on their newly established Ö.N.E Worldwide label. The project builds upon Stööki’s dark trap roots while expanding their sound into a more cinematic style.
The intro, ‘Revive’ is fittingly titled as it feels like an ancient king being resurrected. Understated brass, breathy vocal tones and some deep reverberations are assured to make you lean in a little more closely. ‘Hear That’ gives listeners a taste of their foray into grime. Jelacee’s love for the genre is clear, making it feel like he’s been rapping for years. As the project progresses to its midpoint ‘Endz’ brings in the worldy, hypnotizing aesthetic that begun with ‘Revive’. The live guitar and snapping drums make this a clear standout. Taking it back to grime comes the anthematic cut ‘My G’s.’ The track features my favourite quote on the album, “I only take fashion tips from batman.” ‘Exodus’ is a trapped out trip to ancient Egypt. From the pyramids, to sand storms and down into the tombs. This is gold masks, drapey hooded figures and seductive temptresses embroiled into an auditory experience. ‘Survive’ is the final chapter. Taking a divine direction, it travels through a multitude of moods, moving from unsettling and intense, to eerily calming and spiritual. Ösiris proves that Stööki’s Sound is ever evolving and continually improving. Listen below and grab it here.
