PREMIERE: Lux Lynx & Big K Drop Original Club EP ‘S’mores’

by Colin

With the release of their S’mores EP, LUX LYNX and Big K are proving that Jersey Club never left. While the genre’s peak hype may have worn off, there is still a plethora of stellar producers making great club music. The genre has become synonymous with remixes, but S’mores switches things up showcasing 6 tracks of all original production. The project sees upbeat loops blended with heavy kicks and a healthy helping of signature club samples: from gun clicks to the essential bed squeaks. I mean, this is a BedSqueakSquad release after all. From the sweet sounds on ‘S’Mores’ to the furious closing drops on ‘Clear The Horns’ and the absurdly awesome samples on  ‘There’s E,’ this bumps from front to back.

In addition to premiering the EP we also caught up with LUX LYNX & Big K to get a deeper look into how S’mores came together. Stream and interview below.

How did you guys connect?

LUX LYNX: Big K and I first connected through interactions on Twitter, and I remember hearing some of his remixes and I was really digging his style of club music; very raw but with a refreshing touch. I then reached out to him to see if he was down to be a part of BedSqueakSquad and release a track on our 001 mixtape, we worked on a few more remixes together, and with him and SBF on some Dog Park remixes. More recently the homie helped me join JIGGYTHVT MUSIC, and at that point the S’mores EP began to take shape.

Big K: I connected with Lux Lynx on SoundCloud. I was looking threw music and his style and creativity really attracted me and we got together on our first track ‘Drop That Kitty Down Low Remix’. I swear that track is a hit till this day, it is so different with the rapid chops and the west club style mixed into it. It was so different that I loved it. Me and Lux connected so much because we both loved each other style. It’s like Lux is in my head, when he finishes a song he adds stuff that I was missing and I do that same for him on a song that we are collaborating on.

we was just working on some originals and decided that we knocked them out pretty fast and an EP was needed… – Big K

What made you want to do a full EP together?

Big K: The EP was a random thing and we was just working on some originals and decided that we knocked them out pretty fast and an EP was needed because I never dropped an original one in my musical career and all the tracks was different that no one can duplicate the style, and Lux is a guy I can count on and know the song is going to be dope no matter how weird the samples are.

LUX LYNX: I think the moment that I joined up with JIGGYTHVT MUSIC was when I decided me and Big K needed to go ahead with a full EP. We had already had a couple of collaboration tracks in the works between the two of us, and they were both original tracks, so we were just like “we need to push ahead with a full original EP, yup 6 tracks sounds legit” and we just pushed through and bodied 6 collabs.

…you know this EP is sweet just like the name. – Lux Lynx

Where does the title S’mores come from?

LUX LYNX: The homie Big K thought up the name for the EP, a pretty fire name if you ask me! I mean who tf doesn’t like S’mores? I bet the dude was hungry when he thought it up, but I am about it man, you know this EP is sweet just like the name.

Big K: I thought of the S’mores name because it is totally 2 different styles that come together to make something great like when you make a S’mores. It so many layers that makes a delicious treat. The EP has so many different flavors that it all comes together as one.

What was your goal in creating S’mores?

Big K: To let people see that there is more than traditional jersey club music and to show our style and creativity. Also to show that we can provide more than dope remixes, that we can create original dope club music

LUX LYNX: Our main goal throughout the production of this EP was to bring an all-original jersey club EP to the scene that proves that there is a place for original tracks in a genre that is so over-flooded in remixes. At the same time, me and Big K had the motivation to bring together BedSqueakSquad and JIGGYTHVT MUSIC through this EP.

What’s you favourite sample on the project?

LUX LYNX: The BedSqueakSquad sample duhhhh! Lol just kidding, I gotta admit my personal favorite sample from this project is the “crank that kitty kat” accapella we used on the title track ‘S’mores’. I just love that sample because it is the original accapella that the famous “pop it like a pro” jersey sample comes from. It is just rad to hear the full lyric that the club sample is from 🙂

Big K: The ‘There’s E’ track, it is so trippy that it catches you off guard and the beat drops and chops are so weird that it’s too groovy. Also the ‘On The Wall track’ is my second favorite because me and Lux spent so much time on the track and the sample voice is my best friend that passed from cancer (Dj smacks). That’s why you hear, “shout out to smacks” in the chops and me and Lux knew the EP could be possible because of this track. Also stay tuned to SBF EP called Club Drug, another crazy EP.
