Today marks 3 years since we launched FUXWITHIT. If you’re reading this post and that means something to you, thank you, the fact that you care means the world to us. We started the site with no real vision or clue as to what we were doing. Both myself and Kash had wanted to start a music blog for years but never had the drive or confidence to push forward with it. After reconnecting over our love of music we started kicking the idea around of starting a blog. I didn’t give it a lot of weight. I bullshitted about it in the past and it never came to be so why would this be different? As our relationship grew through our love of music Kash kept pushing it, “Dude,we should start a blog, like for real”. It wasn’t till he texted me at the Yeezus concert (we were both attending separately) and said, “I’ve got the name – FUXWITHIT.” I’m not sure if it was the handful of 10 dollar drinks I’d consumed, the endorphins of seeing Kanye and Kendrick Lamar live, or the fact that a name lent itself to a sense of tangibility, but I was sold. I responded back with an enthusiastic, “hell yeah let’s do this”. Waking up the next morning I asked myself, “are we really going to start a blog?” I texted Kash to gauge his seriousness and he responded with, “I already bought the domain FUXWITHIT.com, it’s ours.”
So that was it. With money sunk and a firm commitment from his side we had to do it. When we started we had no clue what we were doing. We weren’t journalist, we didn’t know how to use WordPress, and we didn’t know a single person in the music industry. What we did have was passion and a lifelong long love for music. It felt like I’d spent the first 20 something years of my life bottling it all inside, FUXWITHIT was the outlet I didn’t know I needed. There was never this grandiose plan that we’d build this great platform. We just wanted to share our thoughts on music and see how other people felt about it. Our goals weren’t lofty in the beginning. It was like, it would be dope if we could get 100 people reading our site regularly. Or imagine if we got to interview an artist we love or landed a guest mix? Over the course of these years we’ve been able to greatly out due our early dreams. We have thousands of readers, have done nearly 50 interviews and hosted 13 guest mixes. I’ve been able to sit down for in depth discussion with some of my favourite artists from around the world and do things that I didn’t even dream about when we started. That said, it hasn’t been easy. It’s been a consistent grind with us dedicating an immense amount of our time and energy into the site (I’ve personally written over 1,100 posts). The more time I put into it, the more I believe in it. I think we’re truly building something of significance. Something that’s needed. There’s a sea of bullshit music blogs acting like EDM or hip-hop TMZs. We’re the antithesis to that. We’re trying to bring the music back to the music blog. So as we look toward the next 3 years, know that our vision won’t change. We’re constantly working to do bigger, better and more exciting things while keeping true to our core: No clickbait, no gossip, no bullshit.
While this post has been pretty personal so far, I definitely haven’t done this on my own. FUWITHIT wouldn’t exist without Kash, so first off shouts to you homie. A huge thank you to anyone who’s written for us, from our earliest writer Daryl who helped us shape the site to our first international writer Nick who taught us about bridge raves in Holland. To our current team Mekabeth, Sam B, and newest contributors Oggie, Brad and Curt. To all the homies that have shot for us (Hector, Tania, Kat, and anyone I may have missed) we appreciate you. One of the things I’m most proud of is the incredible video content we’ve been able to create, which literally would not exist without our incredible Head of Video and visionary Kevin. What we’ve been able to do together in a little over a year is amazing. Also shout out to our editors Seowon & Martin for helping take our video to the next level.
To every artist, promoter and PR person who gave us a shot we are immensely grateful. There’s too many to name individually but you all know who you are. If you’ve done an interview, premiere, guest mix, allowed us to cover an event or hit us with that advance on a song or album we love you. Especially all of you who gave us the time of day when we were practically unknown.
Also finally shouts to all our amazing friends and family who supported us from the jump and gave us words of encouragement to keep us going. Special shout out to my soon to be wife for being extremely supportive even if that meant us spending less time together to allow me to write more or attend shows till all hours of the night.
We’ve been able to achieved a lot in the past 3 years but I feel like we’re truly just getting started. We’ve found our feet and our voice and we’re gearing up to make some serious noise. We’ve got so much exciting stuff in the canon and we can’t wait to blast it out to you. Thank you for your support, you are the reason why FUXWITHIT exists. If you actually read this far, I love you. 2017 is going to be a massive year, I look forward to you being a part of it.
