PURGE, a dark electronic production duo that has been thrilling fans since their arrival later last year, just posted a remix pack of their single ‘Kush’ featuring Krime Fyter.
PURGE is no stranger to FUXWITHIT, and granted us an interview and warned the world of their strange style. Inspired by metal and rap music, they draw together sounds that certainly get a reaction. Their different approach to electronic and bass music has inspired fans to let out their inner weird. From the release of the remix playlist it is clear that other musicians are moved by their eerie sounds as well.
Here’s a littler bit about each unique track.
Tenvey’s remix begins with a strange juxtaposition of sounds which seem to be street traffic, and an ethereal choir voice. The intro opens up from this strange foundation into downtempo bass and breathy synths. Tenvey deepens the vocal track, sinking it to a demonic level. In the second half things pick up, but over all this is a track to drift to with its sauntering bass line, and fluttering snares.
The brightest cupcake in the bunch, Maliboux & CRWNS’s rainbow-sparkle edition of ‘Kush’. This playful and positive track has lots of uplifting synths and glossy percussion. The break is dramatic with its twinkling synths and heavily doctored vocals that bleed into the brass horns, giving it a bubble-gum futuristic sound. Maliboux & CRWNS’s remix is the cutest, also the catchiest of this batch.
Next is HOLLY, with a two-faced performance of ‘Kush’ making this four minute track feel like a cautious, toe-stepping walk through a haunted house. The vocals seem to lurk behind lurching shadow-synths, and halting, nightmarish break downs. Your hair might stand on end, just as the track totally drops out into silence. The bizarro ending to this maze is a starker music scape where a tambourine and a piano are in a desert of rushing water. Make sure to listen carefully to all that’s in this track.
$MGGLR’s darker and creepier remix relishes simultaneously in the deranged, and strung out bass lines. Manifestations of the vocal track push through the instrumentals and seem deliriously driven by their master, $MGGLR. Half way through the rhythm gets juicier, before a thumping second half takes over and leaves a lasting impression.
LowK3y keeps it authentic mixing the cough-sample beat as an essential thread in the bass line. Delivering the verse upfront the track quickens and thickens over time, like a ruoux. The bass gets frothy and overflows as snappy, tight snares weave in and out. The exit of the bass line is pretty nasty, and will have you hitting replay the moment it turns to dead air.
In his edtion, Schade begins with a slimy, head-bobbing, beat. The verse is the focus before its chopped up and tossed around the bass line, and robotic synths take over. A combination of aggressive organic vocals and freaky metallic melodies fight it out in bass-bedrock arena. A stripped down percussion brings you down from this high, but doesn’t erase your memory of the dirty bass.
After a lyric heavy intro, ANAX! drowns us in bass and a wide range of sound through out his remix of ‘Kush’. Sampling in a rapid-fire form, there are flashes of bass and treble, harmonic sections of soaring synths, and sudden breaks. Jam packed, but masterfully blended, the track ends on a single note. Unnerving and alien, it makes you feel experimented on.
Wolfe’s uptempo remix is kept simple in the fore ground with clicking snares, and animalistic synths that two-step with the verse, but in the background stalks the deeper bass. As the drop swells, the bass line is unleashed and Wolfe throws back to a record-scratch style take down which dips in between segments of more contemporary electronic sounds.
The final song in this set is Karpy’s remix. This high energy track imprints trippy techno and brassy house horns on ‘Kush’ transforming it into the reserve you keep for livening things up towards the end of the party. What’s best about Karpy’s take on this song is that it isn’t rushed and the dive into the core of the bass and lively synths makes it all the more thrilling, and easy to get down to.
