Your Old Droog’s ‘Packs’ Is A Must For Hip-Hop Heads

by Colin

Back in 2014, Your Old Droog burst onto the scene with immense hype. Rumors swirled that his debut EP was not that of a new artist, but actually a creative outlet for rap legend Nas. Although the rumors were soon dispelled, the fact that Droog was thought to be one of the greatest rappers of all time, illustrates just how talented he truly his. After spending the past few years refining his sound and dropping razor sharp bars on every tune, he’s back with a new LP.

‘Packs’ is a must for rap fans who still value talent over gimmicks and hype. It’s New York hip-hop at its finest, embodying a golden-era feel without coming across dated. Each track sees Droog flexing his lyrical abilities from the storytelling adventures on ‘G.K.A.C.’ and ‘My Girl Is A Boy’ to the lyrical acrobatics on ‘White Rappers (A Good Guest).’ Taking this even further comes the crusading ‘Rapman,’ where Droog “fights the crime of rappers not writing their rhymes” and gives harsh words to fake trap rappers, “Laugh at where they taking sounds, every bartender, that’s why they making the rounds, listen, they a joke doing trap, I’m hunting down every cat spewing that coke rap.” Packs is everything that hip-hop heads value and one of the most lyrically impressive projects of the past few years.
