DJ AM documentary: Story Of A Legend

by FUXWITHIT

In the 2000’s few DJ’s were more influential and game changing than DJ AM. From his high profile gigs to his relationship with (then massive reality TV celebrity) Nicole Richie, to his endorsement deals with Nike, Pepsi, T-Mobile…. AM was everywhere. Although he often played the glitz & glamour scene he had the skills to back it up.  He wasn’t one of these “just stand on the stage doing heart hands dudes“. Nah….he could cut with the best. His genre crossing sets showed that he possessed a rare balance of pop accessibility and raw skills.

But focusing on just his DJing only tells half the story of Adam Goldstein. In a lot of ways music was an outlet for him to get through the darker sides of his time in this world. He grew up in an abusive household and eventually became addicted to crack & other substances. Eventually he got clean and did a ton of work (including MTV series Gone Too Far) to help spread the word about the perils of addiction. Despite making it through many pitfalls his high octane lifestyle he’d eventually meet his demise far too young.

As I AM: The Life and Times of DJ AM tells his story. It’s glorious, tragic, haunting & heartfelt. It’s a rare look into the man who touched so many others on the turntables & beyond. Not just through music but in spirit as well.  We get to see story after story about how generous and giving he was. Steve Aoki says AM was like a guru to him and he talks about how he influenced him way beyond music. Whether you’re a lifelong student of DJ culture, a casual fan, or completely new to the name DJ AM, this film will hit you in the feels & inspire.
