I’ve been a casual fan of Ape Drums for years. So when I clicked on his latest track ‘Deva’ I was expecting something solid but nothing too mind-blowing. Was I ever wrong. Connecting with the legendary Suku (of Ward 21) the two create a masterpiece. The track perfectly utilizes Suku’s hypnotically deep vocals to pull you in as snapping drums and siren samples complete the dancehall vibe. After a quick “1, 2, 3 go!” listeners are met with a murderous moombahton break that’s sure to leave your head split. From there the track waves in and out from booming bass to gritty flows, with the two often overlapping. If this is what Ape Drums has in store for 2017, I’ll be keeping a close ear out for more. Stream below and cop it on Mad Decent.
