Every year to date, Gramatik has released a delicious musical project for fans to tear into, and this year’s installment is a technologically-inclined, 6-track EP that goes in HARD.
Re:Coil Part I follows the themes of science and technology – two of Gramatik’s favourite topics to “share with the class” on his social media pages. The EP features collabs on most of its tracks, starting off with his Brooklyn homie Branx. Their song, ‘Future Crypto’, pays homage to Gramatik’s upcoming launch of his own cryptocurrency, GRMTK. This will make him the first artist in history to become ‘tokenised’, and those who purchase tokens will share in his intellectual property, earning a portion of his rights and royalties.
The next new song features the likes of keyboard maestro Anomalie, for ‘Goldilocks Enigma’ – a laid-back, angelic beat that’ll leave you enjoying these beautiful sweater-weather days we’ve been blessed with. After that comes the three already-teased tracks: ‘Aymo’, the world music-inspired banger with Balkan Bump and Talib Kweli; ‘Voyager Twins’ with Galactic Marvl, which starts off as a smooth cruise, but then blasts off almost immediately; and ‘Recovery’, which sees the return of repeat collaborator Eric Krasno, and serves as a cool-down from the massive dubstep track preceding it.
He saves the solitary spotlight for himself at the end with his only non-collab track ‘Halcyon’, which has a Street Bangerz beat-making vibe to it, and is likely to heavily resonate with long-time Gramatik fans.
Re:Coil Part I is released by Gramatik’s own label Lowtemp Music, and you can access the EP for your favourite music platform here; his cryptocurrency will launch in Zurich on 9 November. Part II is said to be released sometime in early 2018, so we won’t have to wait too long to see how he follows through on this masterpiece.
