Maxd & Osquello Bring In Deep Emotions With ‘Don’t Close Your Eyes’

by Alessio Anesi

My favourite Canadian boy is back in action, back with a bang, back with style. Maxd and his productions have been the antithesis of the banality for years and it’s truly overwhelming to see his talent acknowledged and strongly supported by a cornerstone of the scene like Majestic Casual. If you are a very careful and skilled listener, ‘Don’t Close Your Eyes’ won’t sound exactly new to your ears, but there’s an easy explanation. Maxd has indeed resumed a two year old clip titled ‘Soma‘ and updated it to host the contribution of London singer Osquello, in the best way possible.

What can I say, mission complete with a 10/10. With its languish pulsations, the bass saturates the atmosphere like a grim fog, depriving us of any benchmark except for Osquello’s velvety voice, that takes us by hand for a introspective wander. While the lyrics fall on us like light rain, we find ourselves lonely, stuck in a gritty place with no way out except a fragile cellar door, separating us from our fears and demons.

It’s great to see how, even though it’s quite out his usual comfort zone, ‘Don’t Close Your Eyes’ is filled with Maxd’s musical personality and carries all his high quality standards, another example that hints the enormous talent of this 20 years old producer.
