Lido has been keeping it quiet in 2018, that is, up until this week when he announced he’d be surprising fans with a new project (which dropped today). Spacesuit is a collaborative EP with rapper J’Von. The 7 track effort expands a myriad of genres and influences from rap, to R&B, jazz and a touch of Lido’s electronic roots. The sound is reminiscent of old N.E.R.D. with a futuristic twist. J’von possesses an approachable backpack influenced style that’s easy to enjoy. Lido’s production and vocals are as incredible as expected. Features from Towkio, Mulherin and Mayer Hawthorne are perfectly placed, adding a different dimension to the project without stealing the show. The first six tracks all pack a fun-loving warm-weather bounce, while the outro ‘Time and Space’ explores a completely different realm. The stripped down effort has Lido pouring his heart out while playing the piano (think ‘You Lost You Keys’). It’s emotional, simple, and gripping. Spacesuit is the perfect introduction to J’von and another reminder of why Lido is one of the best artists alive right now.
