Pandasaurs Guest Mix + Interview

by Colin

Singapore’s Perk Pietrek has been a favoruite of FUXWITHIT’s for some time. He first caught our ear with his Quality Goods release ‘Find You’ and proceed to impress us. Now he’s back with a new project entitled Pandasaurs that sees him teaming up with fellow Singaporean DJ & Producer Lincey. They just released their new single ‘Tide’ which debuted on Gareth Emery’s new blockchain streaming service Choon. To learn more about the duo, we connected with them for an interview to discuss how Pandasaurs came to be, Choon, their latest single and their plans for the future. They also blessed us with a high energy guest mix to give you a taste of what to expect. Listen to the mix below and be sure to check out the full interview. Download the mix here and check the tracklist after the interview!

How did you two first meet?

Lincey: Haha I honestly don’t quite remember. I think we knew about each other before we actually met so when we did meet it was quite fluent. We knew what we both were about and it would soon lead us to this.

Perk Pietrek: Yeah, everything sort of fell into place nicely. We were into the same music and we both wanted to do similar things with music so it was a sooner or later thing that we met and started working together.

we were both at a stage where we felt that two could be better than one.

What made you want to form a duo?

PP: Our own production styles are quite different but in a good way. So when we started working on music together it wasn’t about two guys trying to create the heaviest banger or the most emotional song on earth. But it was more of like finding the perfect spot where the song is cool for both of us. So I felt that we brought great purpose to each other’s music writing. Forming a duo had to happen.

L: I think we were both at a stage where we felt that two could be better than one. We’re both still writing and producing on our own but together we felt that we could do something different and exciting.

Where does the name Pandasaurs come from?

L: We toyed with a bunch of names but we wanted something fun and kind of weird in a way. Something that could illicit a response from people and something that could be synonymous with music and fun.

PP: Pandasaurs is such a fun name! Our previous name ideas had a lot to do with gravy and alpacas but we ended up with Pandasaurs after we visualised it not looking stupid on a Coachella line-up, which is our dream!

What do you each bring to the project?

PP: I think both of us are fluent DJs and we compliment each other when writing music and during our B2B sets before we announced this duo project. On top of that, we have a lot of fun, so…

L: We both bring our own experiences and ideas to the table. We know what we want to do and write about and the process is quite fluid.

You just released your new single ‘Tide’ on Gareth Emery’s new blockchain platform Choon. What led you to this decision? Will it be made available on any other streaming platforms?

PP: Our team has been in touch with Gareth’s team at Choon pretty early on. Also, being personally interested in the crypto world of things, I do believe blockchain and smart contracts can really help to alleviate and automate a lot of the old nagging problems we have in our industry.

L: Yes, everything will be available on all the great streaming platforms after this exclusive Artist Beta Phase release with Choon!

if your song is streamed the most for the day that you get paid the most for the day by the system

What makes Choon special or unique for artists and fans?

PP: Choon is special because it’s a music streaming service built on the Ethereum blockchain. They work on smart contracts in the background which allows artists to be paid fairly and in a timely fashion as all the contracts/splits are locked in on the blockchain and kicked out to the artists directly from there. It’s all automated on it!

L: Artists earn NOTES (Choon’s crypto currency) when their songs get streamed on Choon. The amount of NOTES is proportional to the streams by users for the day, thus, it makes it fair that if your song is streamed the most for the day that you get paid the most for the day by the system. Fans can participate on Choon by actually earning NOTES from streaming music from their favorite artists.

What was your goal in creating ‘Tide’?

L: I don’t think there was a goal really. I think if anything we wanted it to be something people can relate to and we wanted to start to build a bridge between us and people who would come to enjoy our music.

PP: Sometimes if it happens, it happens. Music doesn’t sound great when it’s being forced out.

What does Pandasaurs have planned for 2018?

PP: Lots of stuff in the works!

L: We have a couple more releases up our sleeves and we will probably play a bunch of shows in 2018.

Tell us a little bit about the mix. What can fans expect to hear?

L: This is a lil snippet of what we play during our shows. A bunch of mash ups and edits of music we both personally enjoy and vibe to.

PP: Shout out to everyone who’ve been streaming our new single on Choon! And also to those who have been coming down to support our special B2B sets over in Singapore, this mix should be a treat for you guys. And of course, thank you FUXWITHIT for having us, always a pleasure!
