Oh my, oh my, how much class does this boy have? After all, we Italians are stylish by blood and you know, DNA never lies. In this case we’re going even further, dealing with a true elite, a smart mind rising from the world wide web. A proper Versace of the Bass scene, msft. can take the roughest, faintest, dèmodè fabric and weave it into something extremely chic and tasty, worthy of walking the fanciest Milan, Paris, NY catwalks. But you know, fashion can be very weird, and so is our boy. Therefore, don’t expect heavenly hymns or any kind of romantic ballads, we’re going straight into sophisticated futuristic scenarios.
Msft.’s immaculate technical production is something that at some point I got used to, but would be extremely unfair to take it for granted. I really appreciate how, in his creations, every small detail is conceived and developed as a protagonist, and in its own way has the opportunity to shine. ‘Orbit’ goes along this tradition without exception. It’s on a different planet compared to the majority of the ‘experimental bass’ efforts I daily find on my Soundcloud feed, often ‘just’ monolithic walls of distorted sounds. In these three minutes instead, it’s all about a refined intertwine game, where different layers and patterns compete for the listeners’ attention and dedication. It’s like watching a starry sky: its beauty is not given uniquely by the moon and the brighter stars, the further and remote ones are as essential as the others to achieve perfection. In the same way ‘Orbit’ need to be explored in its wholeness, from the loudest to the feeble sounds. Last but not least, the old school feels that characterize the melodic sections are just the icing on the cake that makes ‘Orbit’ my favourite msft. work to date, a piece of music that could be easily played as the soundtrack to one of the NASA livestreams.
