The first time I heard Deorro and I asked who we were listening to because it sounded familiar, I received the reply, “Oh, this is Deorro. Anything mildly catchy that you can’t put your finger on, that’s him.”
I found this sort of a weird thing to say about an artist, but I have to admit it is certainly true. This some what of a child prodigy DJ and producer was born to Mexican parents in Los Angeles, where he first started DJing at the age of 14. By 17 he was producing his own tracks, and in 2012 remixed DJ Chuckie’s ‘Make Some Noise’ and landed in the top 50 on Beatport. Since then he has released music and worked on projects though Dim Mak, Revealed, Ultra, Monstercat and his own label Panda Funk. His latest release with Monstercat, ‘Dracarys’ is a dark and aggressive banger, with plenty of bass, and hard drops.
Every song that Deorro releases has the ear worm quality: pop-like catchiness with bouncy house beats. It is a lethal combination, a recipe for fun and club shenanigans like none before. His music seems to be influenced by the changing tides of electronic music, but his essential ingredients stay the same: easy lyrics, thrilling synthetics, and dirty bass- what’s not to love?
