No End in Sight for Blvk Sheep with Latest Single ‘Horizon’

by A. Samuel Lewis

Winning NGHTMRE & Boombox Cartel‘s ‘Aftershock‘ remix contest in 2015 was only the beginning of a breakaway career for New York-born producer, Richie Buckley; affectionately known to his fans as Blvk Sheep. With releases on premiere labels such as Quality Goods Records, Fools Gold and Lowly Palace, Blvk Sheep is the furthest thing from a stranger to the heavy trap scene.

His most recent single titled ‘Horizon‘ is a flawless interpretation of a timeless track. “Wrote this song late 2016 after a huge round of tour dates & have been playing it out ever since. Today I finally get to release it,” Buckley discloses with fans. Despite the tune being crafted deep within Blvk Sheep’s dungeon studio nearly 2 years ago, it packs a punch and could easily hold its own against any current releases.

The song opens with a drowned out, uplifting melody, which materializes clearly amid a faint chant of hopeful voices. As the energy of the song begins to build, faint noise begins to grow from the background before completely overwhelming the synths before the drop. A brief pause, with an ominous hanging note, catapults into an assault of robust horns and gritty synths. A quick change of pace reintroduces the angelic chanting, accompanied by light percussion and a wandering patterns of horns growing steadily in volume. The second drop provides a brilliant euphoric contrast to the grimy first, composed of a captivating shower of synths, nestled gently between the booming horns before the melody returns once more to lull the song to a close.

A delicate trap foundation, woven with a meticulous pattern of synths, ‘Horizon‘ is yet another example of Blvk Sheep‘s ingenious production capability and vision for blending the line between trap and future bass with his uncanny style. I can’t wait to see what’s next for Richie, but have a feeling this is going to be his biggest year yet.
