PREMIERE: THRPY Brings Us Mind-Melting New Single ‘Braindrops’

by Colin

THRPY, the producer and mind behind Below The Surface/Above The Surface has been steadily pushing the scene forward as a curator and creator. His music always explores new realms in the bass world and his talent is not going unnoticed. Creeping up on fifteen thousand followers, THRPY reflects saying, “15k is truly humbling. After years of hard work I’m finally starting to see it pay off. Numbers aren’t everything and I truly make music for the love and satisfaction of making people happy but seeing my page reach this milestone shows that people are actually enjoying my music and that means the world to me.”

To celebrate the milestone and give back to his fans, THRPY has cooked up something special entitled ‘Braindrops’. As the title suggests, it’s a mind-melting work of art that’s sure to have your brain pulsing with endorphins, serotonin, and some serious dopamine. What begins with a hazy soundscape riddled with rainfall, evolves at a fluid pace. From the jazzy vibes of the live sax courtesy of Granola, to the bars from Chuckbcuz, this one just keeps progressing. As the vocals are looped and the underlying tension finds it’s way to the forefront, THRPY drops us into a mystifying and malicious section that’s sure to make your head spin. The few sax riffs found in this section provide a nostalgic comfort and help draw us back to reality. It’s not just the juxtaposition of sounds found in ‘Braindrops’ that make it so special, but how they’re brought together, like a master painter finding a way to bring together two colours that should clash in perfect symphony.

Despite pulling in live instrumentation and vocals, the track came together with ease; a truly organic creative output. THRPY recounts the creation, “I was hanging out with my roommate Chuckbcuz, and Granola and they are both super talented. Chuckbcuz just recently moved into my house and he is an up-and-coming rapper from Northern California. Granola plays Sax and was sitting in on Chuck and I’s first ever session. I opened up a super rough work in progress I had and Chuck liked it. He started jotting down some bars. I remembered Granola had played sax and I thought it would be dope to get some live instrumentation on the track. He lives down the street so he jotted home and grabbed the Sax. I recorded Chuck super fast, he’s a one take Jake. Granola started playing along with the sax and that thing was louuuuuud. So I let him record in a loop for a bout 10 minutes and left the room. When I got back I chopped some interesting parts. We ended that session. Then I spent a few days and about 24 hours producing, mixing and mastering the track. The rest is history.”
