Jauz’s Versatility Shines In ‘The Wise and The Wicked’

by Steph Contant

While Jauz first caught everyone’s attention with his ability to push bass boundaries to new limits years ago, he has continued to remain atop the electronic music scene with his creativity and versatility. He has also never shied away from posting his latest festival sets on SoundCloud and YouTube, opening fans to a ton of unreleased goodies along with the typical Jauz wubs. The downside to this openness is that it often takes a while for some of the IDs to get released, as was the case with ‘Gassed Up’, which was being played out as early as March 2017 but only got a full release in April of this year, and with a few more Jauz soon-to-be classics.

However, this itch for unreleased tracks that fans have had for months has finally come to an end today with the release of Jauz’s first full-length album titled The Wise and The Wicked. With the announcement of the project in late July and the full tracklist shared just over ten days ago, this last month has been a suspense-filled four weeks for Jauz fans across the world. With 20 artists, 18 songs, 5 chapters and 3 worlds, The Wise and The Wicked is truly the epitome of everything Sam Vogel has worked on over his career.

The album sees Jauz teaming up with fellow bass legends as well as unlikely collaborators to create an epic journey. A prologue with Madsonik is followed by a highly-anticipated track with Tisoki titled ‘Babylon’ that is reminiscent of the dubstep that we all fell in love with ages ago, and the dancefloor heater ‘In The Zone’, which was the first single from the album and features grimy vocals from Example.

The following chapter is a change in pace from the beginning of the album, featuring the previously released ‘Diamonds’ alongside Kiiara and a soft future-house-turned-future-bass track highlighted by complex drums and soothing vocals from fabrice titled ‘Eager’, before being capped off with a chill trap tune with Krewella. A change in chapter brings about the dirty heater ‘Motherfuckers’ with Snails, the wildly trippy and perhaps most boundary-pushing Jauz track ever titled ‘Acid or Techno’, and ‘Get Widdit’ which features classic Jauz bass complimented by XX92’s garage roots and Bru-C’s distinct vocals.

The final two chapters are up to you to discover, but you can look forward to an emotional collaboration with Adventure Club and the late Kyle Pavone, as well as genres ranging from drum & bass to trap and bass house. The Wise and The Wicked may not be your cup of tea for the entire ninety minutes, but you’re bound to find a few tracks that are worthy of bumping on repeat. Stream the full album below!
