Dutch multidisciplinary artist Sander Van Dijck, more affectionately known as San Holo, has established a stellar reputation within the EDM scene since his debut EP release Cosmos, which reached Top 100 in the Billboard charts and built upon the sturdy foundation of his remix to Dr. Dre’s ‘The Next Episode’, which has nearly surpassed 200M views between YouTube and SoundCloud.
To top off a remarkable list of accolades, San was nominated for New Artist of the Year in 2017 at the Electronic Music Awards, formally acknowledging the bright young producer for his sensational talent and innovative approach to sound design.
A self-taught guitarist from a young age, San’s style borders the territory between alternative and future bass, with a deliberate emphasis on meticulous sound design that composes a mixture of impassioned lyrics, luscious synths, and original guitar compositions.
A sophisticated, euphoric masterpiece from start-to-finish, San’s debut LP album1 is set to release on BitBird later this month and brilliantly depicts his fusion of styles and sounds, while demonstrating a courageous ambition to push the boundaries of his creative capabilities to bring something fresh and unprecedented to the table.
The latest single to release from the forthcoming project, ‘brighter days’ adopts a vibey, euphoric appeal, utilizing raw, edgy vocals and a longing pattern of strings to establish an essence of optimism with subtle undertones of nostalgia.
A warm, bouncy synth pattern leads the introduction of the single, joined eloquently by the soft voice of Bipolar Sunshine as a gentle ensemble of drums kick the track into motion. A heartfelt assemblage of strings builds, the chorus lingers momentarily as the drums hasten, dropping into a sensational loop of vocal distortions, which holds loyal to San’s coveted blissful, dreamy style.
Sander reminisces on his experience working alongside Bipolar Sunshine, “The first time I met Bipolar Sunshine we had a studio set up in the kitchen of an Airbnb. He came to our place and we started writing on the couch and outside, wherever, got some coffee…it felt very natural writing songs with him, we were very much on the same wavelength regarding lyrics. I’ve always loved the song he did for DJ Snake, ‘Middle.’ I really love his songwriting and his voice, I love the fact that his voice is not so perfect and it’s got some rough edges. You can authentically hear that in the recording as well, the verses are not perfect, it’s not perfectly polished, but it sounds very unique and very much like him.”
