A few weeks back Baauer unleashed a new single entitled ‘Hate Me’ that featured Miquela. For those unfamiliar, Miquela is an Instagram influencer and recording artist….she’s also a computer generated character. Yeah, 2018 is weird. The track blends syrupy sweet vocals with a creative backdrop for a future pop sound reminiscent of Cashmere Cat and SOPHIE. While it may have checked the right boxes for some, it lacked a certain grittiness that long-time Baauer fans would normally expect.
Seemingly aware of this fact, Baauer has returned with a VIP rework of ‘Hate Me’ that shows no lack of grit. The sweet vocal tones are replaced by bent and looped vocals that are nothing short of haunting. Chilling synths take the temperature down even further. When the distorted bass kicks in you can practically see your breathe before the electricity ignites the scene. It’s an electrical storm over the frozen tundra.
