Malaa is a mysterious man and doesn’t confess much even considering his label’s name (Tchami‘s Confession). Theorized to be a crafted persona, a random Parisian, a figurehead of a supergroup, or something between, we can certainly say he knows what makes the world turn with his latest release ‘Cash Money’.
We all know that credit is a scam and there’s nothing like the feeling of a wad of cash (whatever currency), but what we did not know before this track was how well laser effects can carry a melody, and harmonize with big-belly bass. Malaa unfurls a display of tech-house’s energetic, but sadistic, power over rhythm, bass, and synths. He has a certain class to him typically; he gives off a dark vibes, and resonates with deeper, truer bass house sounds.
This is at least what fans like myself seem to expect, but we have always seen him hint at a rebel nature with his fierce style and his propensity to casually lighting up a cigarette on stage regardless of the type of venue. ‘Cash Money’ departs from Malaa’s deeper and darker known mixes, and seems to be an imitative performance of how money changes things: ups the ante, makes agreements real, and creates the willingness for deceit. This track is uncharacteristic of Malaa, but what really is of a man whose identity is unknown? Enjoy the surprises and ready to here this make it rain on a crowded dance floor.
