Ekali Impresses With His Versatility On ‘Crystal Eyes’ EP

by Steph Contant

We never cease to be amazed by Ekali‘s musical prowess and versatility. The Vancouver-based producer has proven his undeniable talent time and time again, from his tributes of classics such as ‘I Can’t Stop‘, to his originals trap heaters such as ‘Babylon‘, to dream collaborations with Zhu and TroyBoi. His ability to switch from vocal-driven beauty to bass-heavy festival heaters is unparalleled, and this is on full display in the first three singles of his newest Crystal Eyes EP, released last Friday on OWSLA. After enlisting Medasin and Elohim in the soothingly beautiful ‘Forever’, Ekali joined forces with the Australian powerhouse duo SLUMBERJACK to deliver the intricate, earth-shattering ‘Helios‘, before doing a complete one-eighty to once again display his melodic side in an elegant track with Yuna titled ‘Leaving’.

With the full release of the Crystal Eyes EP boasting a solid six tracks, we were further impressed by the Canadian’s expertise in keeping us captivated for the entirety of the project. ‘Stay Hollow’ with mossy. combines acoustic elements with electronic samples to create a synergistic collision between two usually separate worlds. ‘Forgot How To Dream’ with K.Flay continues this hybrid style that Ekali seems to have perfected, with beautiful guitar riffs taking the lead for the majority of the track. The final, title-track of the EP closes the roller coaster of emotions with a classic future bass touch.

Crystal Eyes is a must-listen for any electronic music fan. Check it out below!
