With nearly 6 years of releases under their belt, trap duo Ben David & D’artagnan Mattalliano, more affectionately known as Crystalize, deserve endlessly more recognition and praise for their innovative approach to production. Proficient in all things trap and bass, the pair have created an uncanny style which effortlessly spans the two genres, toting an endless stockpile of original music and challenging remixes.
A long-running work-in-progress finally made its debut on SoundCloud from the duo this past week. ‘Say Your Prayers’ furnishes a spooky melody, frightening vocals and more than ample resonating bass frequencies, perfectly suited in the spirit of Halloween.
The duo describes it as, “A heavy bass track that takes you into a transdimensional realm that leaves you questioning your life!”
An intro eerily reminiscent of a Michael Myers scene beckons a foreboding finger, as the muffled vocals “Say a Prayer” ring ominously in the background, an aggressive complexion of snares and menacing, rumbling synths slowly draw you in.
A sudden break revives the menacing vocal sample, followed in wake by a startling bass hit and rigid pattern of crisp, precise synths. Contrasting growling fragments and tuned-down, filter-heavy morsels from the vocals give the track an overall animalistic feeling that is equally displeasing as it is intoxicating.
Brilliantly timed in anticipation of Halloween, Crystalize hit home yet again with daunting production and flawless mastering. ‘Say Your Prayers’ is an intricate, ominous masterpiece that coherently blends hip-hop vocals, prodigious samples and an extensive arsenal of bass.
