His latest release ‘Shock’ is no different. thook drops listeners into the streets of Istanbul where historic beauty and exotic aromas excite your senses from the outset. The initial drop hits like opium smoke; conjuring a euphoric confusion. Just when you feel lost, a calming bell evokes a near spiritual vigor. thook expands on the song-stealing sound, “It’s a bell played in the phrygian scale. The first drop was intentionally cultural with both the didgeridoo, and the middle eastern styled bells to tie it into a world sound.”
From there, thook allows a calm to wash over your mind before bringing back the intensity at even more mind-bending levels. If the first drop was a high rooted in euphoric confusion, the second is a trip that flirts with insanity. ‘Shock’ is an out-of-body expedition that intricately showcases thook’s genius. It’s one of five tracks off his Natural Instincts EP which drops today. “I had this idea from the start that our natural responses to everyday life can be very interesting. The whole EP is like a lot of my stuff, more visual than anything. The names give a story, but more so the sounds where you can piece together a bigger picture.” thook tells us.
