‘We Get Crunk’ is the freshest and grooviest house track and the third single off of Malaa’s latest collection Illegal Vol. 2.
This is classic, funky house with futuristic hip hop flavorings but fun is what it really is. Malaa’s last releases may have been focused on the ferocity and bravado of electronic experimentation, but ‘We Get Crunk’ has a flirty feel to it, and just makes you want to dance. He first builds it up with a bubbly tempo, tossing in saucy elements, a twang here and there, like a chef adding ingredients to a pot of something steamy and meaty.
After the crisp drop into a pillow of house bass, the funk continues to tug at your hips. This leads up to an abrupt, complete break down of all the sounds. Within the pause of near silence, Malaa stitches things back together for another funky progression of techno-house waves.
Malaa can make the beat seethe with darkness, but its tracks like ‘Pregnant’, and his collab with Tchami, ‘Summer 99’ and now ‘We Get Crunk’ that testify to his electronic music artistry, but also his love to party and catch the vibe of a night out of good music. This is what electronic music is all about, which may be why Malaa released this deep-house, party track while he currently headlines his Illegal Fall Tour 2018 and will likely share this perfect party groove with all his fans on the road.
