Simple Becomes Powerful In Hidden Face’s ‘You Don’t Know’

by Steph Contant

Around this time last year, a mysterious producer by the name of Hidden Face popped up on our radar, and we’ve been intrigued ever since. The French producer, who is a member of a known house music duo, chooses to remain anonymous and wears a white mask in press photos and when performing live. If Malaa is the bad boy gangster of house, Hidden Face is the polar opposite, both in terms of his looks and his minimal yet angelic take on house music and techno. I even had the opportunity to attend his debut show in Paris earlier this year and his set was super captivating, so it’s only a matter of time until this guy starts making waves in the scene.

Hidden Face is known for creating melodic tunes that are simplistic in nature, never overbearing listeners with too many sounds all at once. Nonetheless, the layers and fine tuning behind each composition validates his true talents as an artist, as there is a hidden complexity behind each track that might not be evident upon a first listen. This ability is on full display in his latest release titled ‘You Don’t Know.’ An orchestral pad leads listeners into one of his darkest tunes to date, before he lures us with a mean bass line, crisp percussion and his signature plucky melodies.

It took me a couple of listens to fully appreciate ‘You Don’t Know’, so I recommend you also give it a handful of listens before judging. Simple yet powerful, Hidden Face is onto something. Check out his latest below!
