Wavedash and Quest Defy Genres in ‘BSTRD’

by Steph Contant

Peanut butter and jelly. Bacon and eggs. Yin and yang. Wavedash and Quest. Those are just a few examples of pairings that, when combined, become more powerful than when alone. It’s impossible to deny the chemistry that the Austin-based trio and their fellow Texan have developed over the years, collaborating on massive hits such as ‘Flood’, ‘Off Leash’, and their genre-defying collaborative Devil Music EP released earlier this year. In just a couple of years, both Wavedash and Quest have established themselves as bass music’s most promising acts, keeping dubstep fresh and exciting while continuously exploring new realms of bass.

Coming off the debut release on NGHTMRE and Slander’s Gud Vibrations label, Wavedash are keeping their hot streak alive with a single titled ‘BSTRD’ featuring none other than Quest. Wasting no time, the collaborators bombard listeners with gnarly sound design from the get-go, with meticulously arranged contorted synths and futuristic lasers that will bring out your nastiest bass face. A melodic break riddled with catchy samples perfectly leads the song into a second banging drop. It might take a few listens to appreciate the full beauty of this bass monster, but it’s totally worth your time.

Bridging the gap between dubstep, electro, and bass house, Wavedash and Quest are prime examples of producers preventing bass music from getting dull, and ‘BSTRD’ is further proof of this statement. Check it out below!
