Despite its snappy drums and full bass, it retains a relaxing, almost meditative energy. ‘Say Yeah’ picks up the pace with TroyBoi lending his vocals to the feel good anthem. The bouncy beat is accentuated by smooth, simple and inspiring lyrics. It’s a “winning with your team” theme song with just the right amount of freshness. ‘Reload Dat’ sees the artist in his best form, transporting listeners to the far East. It’s the soundtrack to an ancient Samurai training ritual. It possesses a regal refinement while still remaining explosive and deadly.
Next up, Healthy Chill makes an appearance on ‘SHOW OFF,’ a braggadocios trap slapper. The lead single ‘Frustrated’ is another standout. Combining captivating vocals from Destiny with alluring strings and brain-bending bass makes it feel like a more refined version of ‘Do You?’ Back to the rap comes ‘Drip (No Mayo)’ which presents listeners with a SoundSnobz reunion. While I can’t help but smirk at hearing “No Mayo” scattered throughout, this one is definitely still saucy. ‘Laalach’ closes the project with a cinematic finale. Violins from a string orchestra in India, rattling bass and hypnotic chants create a soundscape that’s sure to take you away.
V!BEZ, Vol. 2 is a masterwork by one of the most gifted producers out. There’s something for everyone all while remaining true to TroyBoi’s signature style.
