Dabow – Guest Mix + Interview

by Colin

Few producers in the SoundCloud community have been as prolific and consistent as Dabow in the past two years. The Argentinean beatmaker has been setting the cloud ablaze with some of the hottest originals, remixes and collabs out. His breakout smash ‘Ole’ has landed support from a who’s who in the industry ranging from Benzi and Boombox Cartel, to UZ and RL Grime. With heavyweights paying attention and the underground rallying behind him, Dabow is on the cusp of becoming a breakout star. Next Friday he’s dropping an official remix for RL Grime and 2019 is sure to be packed with even bigger looks. Today we have the honour of connecting with Dabow for an exclusive interview and guest mix. The guest mix is packed with 14 unreleased bangers! Yes, the whole mix is unreleased Dabow! Stream the mix below and be sure to read the interview.

What was it like growing up in Argentina? What’s the music scene like there?

It is/was awesome! When I started producing, there was no scene besides psytrance, and I wasn’t on that wave. So my scene experience was mostly based SoundCloud underground. Then a few years ago there was a scene in Argentina and while I was in Buenos Aires I met a lot of producers and it was really nice at that time. Nowadays I’m only working with a few, mostly solo, and with my brother who raps.

You recently moved back to Patagonia. How has it been treating you? Has it provide any inspiration for new music?

Awesome man! Thanks for asking. Lovely place, still getting myself in place. Got me inspired for life in general!

it’s something that comes out of me really easy, I don’t have to force anything, of course I’ve got to practice a lot and expand myself with the new genres, sounds, techniques, and stuff. But I can’t stop making music (for now).

What drives you to produce music?

I produce music because it’s something that comes out of me really easy, I don’t have to force anything, of course I’ve got to practice a lot and expand myself with the new genres, sounds, techniques, and stuff. But I can’t stop making music (for now).

Between your output and your originally you’ve been drawing comparisons to Mr. Carmack. How does it feel to be compared to Carmack? Has be been a big influence for you?

Haha, he’s been the biggest influence for the Dabow project, and being “compared” to him feels awesome in a way, and also challenges me to get out of the kind of sounds someone else did, and make my own wave.

Congrats on releasing your first sample pack. What was it like putting it together? What’s your favorite sound in the pack?

Thank you! To be honest the sample pack has been one of the best works I’ve been able to do this year. It’s been such a pleasure, getting a lot of the sounds I created over 4 years and getting them to creators, feels like a huge honor to me. I want to contribute, and it’s awesome for me doing it in this way.

Repost chains are ruining, if not already ruined, the SoundCloud community. I have been in huge repost chains for a while, and realized it’s the worst thing ever. Reach is not even real, the amount of followers is meaningless nowadays, and all we got to do is work on whatever we want, and focus more.

You recently tweeted, “bruuuhh don’t repost shit u didn’t listen to!” Where did this tweet come from? Do you think repost chains are ruining SoundCloud?

Ahhh man yeah. Repost chains are ruining, if not already ruined, the SoundCloud community. I have been in huge repost chains for a while, and realized it’s the worst thing ever. Reach is not even real, the amount of followers is meaningless nowadays, and all we got to do is work on whatever we want, and focus more. But in the positive way, all of the fake stuff has been exposed, and the good stuff is still there, just gotta dig!

You’ve said that you wanted to make a collab album. Is this likely to actually happen? Who would be on it?

I did! I used to collab a lot, and I think it could easily happen! I don’t have any names, but some dope producers for sure!

I just recently discovered your dubstep side project Wobad. How did this project start? Why not release everything under one name?

Yeee! Wobad is previous to Dabow and it’s same name backwards Wobad/daboW. I started listening to Borgore, and blew my mind, so I started. Previously I produced dance music inspired on Calvin Harris’s style.

The mix is filled with unreleased ID’s. When should we expect to see some of the tracks released?

SOON! A remix on there is coming out December! A lot of stuff is gonna be unreleased for a while, and some is gonna get a home sometime! (Some still wip’s but shhhhhh)

What’ your Favourite memory of 2018?

Musically, the sample pack, and a remix proposal, has been some real GOALS. About life, my girlfriend and I, been traveling a lot together and that’s been beautiful.

What would you most like to do in 2019?

Visit LA, and other parts of USA and the world. The biggest part of DaFanbase is in USA, so is the producer family, and I’ve never been there so I’m ready for that!
