If you’re looking to spice up your life, Yvng Jalapeño has the sauce. The Australian producer has been taking over the game with a slew of incredible remixes and edits including an official What So Not remix and a ‘Losing It’ edit that’s currently being supported by the biggest names in electronic music. Add in collaborations with Ian Munro, Just A Gent and TYNAN, and it should come as no surprise that Yvng Jalapeño is one of the hottest rising stars in the trap and bass scene. With the year coming to a close, we knew we needed to connect with Yvng Jalapeño for a guest mix and interview to close his stellar year off right. The mix is an absolute monster that’s filled with a ton of his own edits and reworks. We also spoke to him about what it’s like getting support from major artists, surfing, plans for the future and how he really feels about Jalapeño’s. Check it all out below.
Tell me about the mix. What’s the vibe you’re trying to create with it? Where should people be listening to it?
My last 2 mixes have been filled with unreleased tracks from my mates. This one I wanted to just have fun and throw a whole heap of mashup/edits/originals of my own in here. It’s definitely a mix you’ll be playing at house parties or before heading to the club.
I saw on Instagram that you’re teaching yourself to surf. How’s that coming along?
I’ve been wanting to surf for years but never really given it a proper go. Decided to buy my own board and give it a crack. First attempt wasn’t a complete fail, managed to stand up 3 times (I was cheering about that). My goal is to be able to stand up consistently before summer ends.

What’s the best thing about summer in Australia?
Our beaches for sure! I’ve only been to a few countries but none of them compare to our beaches here.
Like many up-and-coming artists you work a day job. What do you do for work outside of music?
I’m a refrigeration mechanic by trade. I’m not a massive fan of my job but it pays the bills.
Are there plans to move into music full time? If so, when will you know you’re ready to make the jump?
Doing music full time is my main goal. I feel once my shows are more consistent and if I think my day job is stopping me from certain opportunities then I’ll make the jump.
I ate my first Jalapeño before my last show in New Zealand and can confirm that they are disgusting.
Serious question: Do you like Jalapeños?
I ate my first Jalapeño before my last show in New Zealand and can confirm that they are disgusting. I’m not a big fan of hot food either haha
You’ve become well known for your remixes and edits. Are there any plans to put out more originals? Is there a reason why remixes have been your main focus?
Yeah my remixes and edits are just my way of expressing myself while working on originals. I’m real picky when it comes to my original release. For example I had planned to release a 2 track EP a few months back. I ended up hating both tracks so pretty much threw them in the bin. Planning on releasing an original first up next year.
To think I was never going to release that. I mean everyone’s playing that from Joyryde, Habstrakt, Alison Wonderland & so on. It’s crazy…
Your ‘Losing It’ edit has seen insane support recently. What’s been the craziest support you’ve received to date?
Man! To think I was never going to release that. I mean everyone’s playing that from Joyryde, Habstrakt, Alison Wonderland & so on. It’s crazy and such a good feeling seeing something I made at home be played at major festivals.
You recently released an official remix for What So Not. How did that come to happen? How did it feel? What’s your relationship like with What So Not?
So that remix was originally one of my edits. I finished it and made a little hype tweet and WSN ended up asking me if he could listen to it. We ended up chatting on the phone about the song and that’s how it became an official release. This was the first time I’ve spoken to Chris, our phone call really made me see how much of a good bloke he is.
2018 was a massive breakout year for you. What’s your favorite memory?
Professional would be all the success and support around my Fisher edit & seeing new followers discovering my older tracks. It’s really made the last few months of the year great.
Personal achievement would be getting married :) I married my best friend in April this year, it’s a bit of a spin out to say but feels so good.
What’s next on the horizon for you?
I mean I don’t have a game plan with my music career, I’m a 1 man team at the minute so I’m just taking each day as it comes. I’ve have a whole bunch of goals that I want to tick off my list. I feel I’m going to keep releasing edits and remixes & will try my best to get more originals out in 2019!
