#tbt – Slum Village – Fall In Love (Moody Good Remix)

by Steph Contant

This year has been quite the treat for sound design aficionados as it has seen both Space Laces and KOAN Sound return to releasing flawless projects. Another producer known for his impeccable engineering and genre-defying work, but also for his infrequent releases, is the legendary Moody Good. From his 2015 hit ‘Hotplate’ to his ‘Music To Go F*ck Yourself To’ mixes and his more recent rework of Noisia’s ‘Get Deaded’, everything Moody Good lays his hands on is bound to be rinsed in live sets around the world. And, although his bass tracks get the most love, Moody Good has also proven to have a softer side in ‘Satoshi Nakamoto’ and today’s feature, his remix for Slum Village’s ‘Fall In Love’.

Four and a half years after its release, Moody Good’s ‘Fall In Love’ remix is still being played out in mixes and sets by a ton of trap and future bass artists. Flume’s self-titled album is arguably the only future bass work that has remained as timeless as this remix. It’s not insane bass or raw energy that make this track so appealing, but its simplicity to the untrained ear despite its true complexity to the experts. Captivating chord progressions paired with meticulous sound design flip the original hip-hop track into an electronic masterpiece, showcasing Moody Good’s exceptional musical genius.

Here’s to hoping for more Moody Good in 2019. Check out the remix below.
