Ibranovski Keeps Bass House Alive With ‘Ghetto Mainstream 6’

by Steph Contant

Ibranovski is closing out 2018 as strong as he closed out the last calendar year with his sixth EP in two years. Earlier this year, the Netherlands-based producer unleashed his forward-thinking Ghetto Mainstream 4 The Hood Philosophy EP and introduced a unique percussion-driven style of bass house to the world. He followed this project up with the fifth installment of his Ghetto Mainstream works, and today, the talented artist is back with Ghetto Mainstream 6 – The Lab Outbreak, out now on Confession.

With the absence of forward-thinking bass house in recent times, it’s always fun to come across a refreshing take on the genre. Ibranovski has proven his ability to do this countless times over the past couple of years, and his latest two-track EP is no exception. Leading off with ‘Primal Riot’, Ibranovski depicts an extraterrestrial car chase with futuristic plucks and a crisp build in tension, all layered underneath a catchy “I’m surrounded by lasers” sample. A couple of gunshots flip the track in a new direction, bringing listeners into the depths of the Amazon with monkey-inspired synths and jungle terror vibes. Ibranovski’s ability to easily weave through various soundscapes in one track without sounding disjointed embodies his essence as a producer, and this is on full display in ‘Primal Riot’. The second and final track of the project titled ‘Quarantine’ further pushes the artist’s new-found sound. A drum-heavy drop paired with minutely-timed samples and a groovy bassline make it a dance floor-ready banger.

We already know what you’re going to say, but with JOYRYDE’s indefinite hiatus, it’s fun to have someone filling his shoes and taking them in a new direction. Check out Ghetto Mainstream 6 – The Lab Outbreak below!
