Lucky You, Lucky Me’s 2018 Advent is Here

by Mekabeth

Lucky Me’s Advent is an epic annual giveaway and it’s going on right now.

Lucky Me’s annual project is a platform for the exchange of art from creator to audience in a sort of anti-consumerism type of exchange. It allows participating artists to get back to their roots as creatives. Read the blurb here on their site. This year is a bit less aggressive about how they want to protect the artistry of their music and more about enjoying the ability to share it with their fans, in the spirit of giving more or less.

Lucky Me dedicates this year’s collection of free downloads to the Creative Commons which is an organization of international researchers, activists, legal, education, and policy advocates that “… helps you legally share your knowledge and creativity to build a more equitable, accessible, and innovative world.” This worthy cause works to “unlock the full potential of the internet to drive a new era of development, growth, and productivity”. It’s clear that there is great effect how these forces impact the world of digital music and the artists that create it.

So far Lucky Me’s 2018 à la carte menu there are six delightful tracks . This is about the music and it’s visible from the palette displayed in this collection as each track is a little snow globe of a musical dimension. Baauer’s ‘Tep Tep’ is emotional and melodic with swirls of wispy synths and rattling, crunchy bass. Following directly behind is Lunice’s bouncy, break beat ‘Partout’ that is both funky and earthy. Not far behind is ‘Fish Scale’ by Inkke which is dreamy and industrial with its steady tension and hip hop vocals. Fresh but savory Sam O.B. keeps it light with jazzy percussion, and classy horns.
