PREMIERE: bd hbt Make Their Mark On Bass Music With ‘Conception’ EP

by Colin

In the past year, Los Angeles duo bd hbt have become a SoundCloud favourite for bass enthusiasts. Their gritty and wonky sounds always present listeners with a unique journey and just the right amount of bounce to be able to groove to. For those unfamiliar let’s start at the beginning, “Both of us originally had different music backgrounds, but came together over the common ground of wanting to make something that stands out from the crowd. Milan’s background in hip hop and my background in heavy metal bring together both our love for rap inspired/half time drums, while both our high energy personalities bring together our love for loud, fast, high energy music. Bringing these two worlds together have birthed our own way of expressing ourselves through bass music,” Sam of bd hbt tells us.

Their high energy style is on full display within their 3 track Conception EP which is out today. “The word conceive means ‘to bring to life,’ so for us, this EP represented the birth of our next chapter in this journey. 2018 has been a coming of age for us as producers, and through it we have grown exponentially in our skills and knowledge of Performing, Engineering, and Producing this project from the ground up. Having the ability to finally put what we have in our heads down on a project has been rewarding, as we can finally share our ideas with the world to our fullest potential. This EP is only the birth of it,” Sam explains.

In addition to bringing to life the duo’s new chapter, the release also looks to satisfy both sides of their fan base: those who listen to their music for deeper meaning through their sounds, and those who simply just want to dance and enjoy the music at a club or festival setting. Each of the three tracks personify this perfectly, honing in on sound design and taking listeners on a journey while still remaining bangers that could tear the club apart.

The whole project is shadowed with a cloak of darkness bringing listeners deep into the underground. But that darkness doesn’t equate to anger or frustration as Sam clarifies, “The darkness comes from a desire to find positivity within negativity. Everybody thinks that if you make loud, heavy music, you have to be angry. But I think the beauty of it is the happiness that can be heard within all that noise.” Press play on Conception and enjoy the beauty within the beast.
